Local 4093 members staff Life Squad #8 for the Lucas County Emergency Medical Service (LCEMS) to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) capability on a 24 hour basis 7 days a week for all of Lucas County. They also provide everyday service to the citizens of the City of Oregon by performing fire inspections and maintaining the equipment and facilities of the Fire Department.
Local 4093 has a continuing mission to preserve the history and maintain the legacy of the Oregon Full Time Firefighters. We are also committed to assist and fund charities for the benefit of local citizens and firefighters.
Health Alert: Mesothelioma
Many fire fighters were exposed to asbestos, while putting their lives on the line for others. As a result of their bravery these professionals may develop mesothelioma, a form of cancer that attacks the cells lining of the body’s internal organs.
Pleural Mesothelioma
Exposure to asbestos is the primary cause of pleural mesothelioma. Used in many industries throughout the 20th century, asbestos was found in thousands of products and those who worked with the material in an occupational setting are most at risk for developing pleural mesothelioma.
Pleural mesothelioma develops in the mesothelium, which is the thin layer of tissue that lines and protects the chest cavity and other organs as well. While other types of mesothelioma may result from asbestos exposure, pleural mesothelioma is the most common, making up approximately 75 percent of all mesothelioma cases.
